Deaf CSUNians Meeting – Friday, January 23, 2015

Minutes: First DC meeting

Meeting Begins: 2:00PM

 

Goals:

Secretary – Continue on emailing committees and reminders, make the PowerPoint on time, and communicate with committees regarding with their report

Recreation – Plan events at least 1 ½ weeks in advance, send reports on time, recruit a future Recreation chairperson, and help get more Deaf students involved with DC

Social Cultural – Host more events than last semester and work with DSA for events often!

Public Relations – Helping promote for JASK fundraiser at Skateland and 1 thing I want to improve is better attendance at the events

Spring Banquet – Advertise and host fundraiser for Banquet, have as many people attend as possible, and make the event successful and fun!

DC Lounge – Complete all organizations needed for the 3 sub rooms

 

Reports:

Elena (President)

            Jim and I met before school began and discussed different topics and about NCOD. An online program is in beta stages for interpreting service

            Special requests and class cancellation and will be launched in several months!

            Meet the Clubs is next week Wednesday and Thursday from 11am to 2pm. Please come by to volunteer and support! Registration and set-up starts at 9:30am

NCOD will have a welcome back part! More details from Jennifer will come soon

            DC meeting is cancelled next week due to the camping trip!

            The camping trip spots are almost all filled up. Please let me know if you plan to come and I can reserve another spot for 8 people. Pay your 20$ ASAP! We are working on food and activities!

            Glide (the phone app), NCOD and CSUN have been discussing an event this spring! Open discussion about this later

            Bob is hosting a Budget workshop on February 4th at 3pm

 

Julia (Vice President)

            No report

 

Haya (Secretary)

            Welcome back from winter break! Hope y’all enjoy your break

            I will be sending the first report on Tuesday and the second report on Thursday. The deadline to submit the report will be at 8:30pm. There will be no adjustment due for me to have time to put all the reports on the Power Point before Friday.  So, make sure you send your report on time! You will only get two email from me for the report unless if I email you regarding with your report

 

Emmanuel (Treasurer)

            DC new balance: 5,121.96$

            Will have two new businesses

 

Jeffrey (Sergeant-at-Arms)

            No report and total fines from Fall Semester 2014 are 31.00$

 

Clarisia (Spring Banquet)

            Hello all, I recently talked with Bob and will have tickets printed out in cardstock and begins selling. Tickets will be sold at NCOD Library. I haven’t announced or advertised yet as I am unsure if to keep the price of 50$-55$ for tickets. I will have a discussion about that. Besides that, I have contacted the same DJ from DCLC for the banquet and have a friend who is a photographer. Just need to look into decorations and possibly other entertainment

 

Alexandra (JASK)

            Still in process of getting fundraiser check from chipotle (some issues but I am handling it)

            Fundraiser THIS Saturday (tomorrow) at Skateland from 7:30pm to 10:30pm, hope to see everyone there! (:

            Schedule for JASK is officially made!

 

Tyler (Deaf CSUNians Ambassador Program)

            Met up with Jennifer, the DCAP advisor; we compiled a list of potential judges and went over interview questions. We are currently working on contacting judges. Please do not ask for the names of potential judges. The selection of judges will be very diverse

            Still working with USU reservation room coordinator. The room may be either Northridge Center or Plaza del Sol Performance Hall. We are aiming for cheaper rent and Northridge Center is cheaper

            Will have DCAP meetings next week. We will practice presentations

 

Nhi (Fundraiser)

            Brainstorming ideas for the fundraiser this semester

 

Tuzdie (Public Relations)

            No report

 

Tirzah (Art)

            I have created a flyer for the D Project. I sent it to Dr. Flavia S. Fleischer, so she can send the email out to her faculty and Student Affairs       

            I have created a filming agreement form on Google Docs, a script for the project, and an appointment schedule on Google Docs

            I have been working on a new film project, which is called “A Love Note to Everyone” It is an inspirational note for everyone. The date will be February 13th

 

Matt (Recreation)

            No report

 

Braden (Social Cultural)

            Nice to be back with you guys!

            I’m excited to go to camp!

 

Danielle (Deaf CSUNians Lounge)

            Friday morning, I will change out the season board with my committee members

            I also spoke with Jennifer and Christine Rushing about using previous furniture from NCOD. I will continue to go to PPM office to see what other furniture they have

            I more to have an open discussion about Glide’s visit to CSUN

            Details: March 24th, will work with AS for marketing

 

Emmanuel (Treasurer) – Temporary: Julia

            I move to add “petty cash” list of 20$ to our DC budget. – Tyler seconded

            Reason: Less hassle by going to the bank every single time to withdraw for money changes for fundraising events. I talked with Bob for permission. He is willing to hold petty cash in his office

            Informal vote for 100$ - full house

            Clarisia amended the proposal of “petty cash” of 20$ to 100$ to our DC budget. – Julia seconded

            Vote: Full house 100$ to keep in Bob’s office: full house

           

            I move to reimbursement for 4.35$ from General Fund. – Nhi seconded

            Reason: I purchased Dry Erase color markers for the white board in the DC Office

            Vote: 10 Opposed: 3

 

Matt (Recreation)

            I move to open discussion on hosting a paintball event in February or March. – Tirzah seconded

            Reason: Good deal to buy paintball pass for 65$ for 12 (essential things for paintball) plus another 12 for free. Discussion whether if should have the event happen

           

            I move to open discussion about Interpreters Evaluations. – Tyler seconded

            Reason: I heard a lot of student complaints about interpreters and Shawn Clark is willing to work with us with the issue

 

Announcement

 

Tyler (DCAP)

            NCOD will host a public forum in MPR after today’s Deaf CSUNians meeting to discuss whether we should continue Sign n’ Run this year or postpone it to next year. Please show up at this meeting if you want to voice your opinion

 

Julia (Vice President)

            Rugby game at Home (CSUN) will provide snacks and drink. Come and support!
