Deaf CSUNians Meeting Minutes, Friday 26th 2014

 

Absence: Nhi Tran was excused

Advisors: Robert & Kailyn

Quorum: Elena, Julia, Emmanuel, Haya, Alexandra, Tyler, Matt, Jeffrey, Roz, Braden, Tuzdie, Tirzah and Kendra (13 people)

Temporary Fundraiser: Kendra Hao

 

Minutes: Edited the Quorum section - approved.

Meeting Begins:12:31PM

 

Reports:

- Elena (President):

  • I am working with both DSA & AST Presidents to have a bowling social event for all three organizations in October. If you have any preferred dates, please let me know after this meeting.

  • This is the new layout of meetings - note where the signer (speaker) is, between the stage and the Executive Board.

We will be following the PowerPoint Haya makes every week to make meetings more easy and straightforward. If you have a late report, please give Haya your written report on paper as soon as possible before or during the meeting.

  • As you just experienced, we will have a warm up activity between Roll Call and Reports every week.

  • We will have a RAP discussion hosted by Julia after this meeting.

 

- Julia (Vice President)

  • No Report

  • Report during meeting:

* I will hold a Rap discussion to share our feelings about DC meeting.

 

- Haya (Secretary)

  • No Report

 

- Emmanuel (Treasurer)

  • New balance is $6,011.37

* Reimbursed check to Elena of $123.37

 

- Jeffrey (Sergeant At Arms)

  • I just fixed the Fines of the Sergeant-at-Arms again and I will pass out the contract forms in the meeting.

Please sign the contract forms on the last page after the meeting and then give to me. Afterward, meet me if you do have any question about the contract. Thank you.

 

- Kendra (Temp. Fundraiser)

  • Already set the date for BBQ Event on October 7th

* I had set the date for October 7th because that way, we have more time to prepares and have the paperwork processed.

And also have time to find some volunteers to help. The BBQ time has been setfrom 11am through 4pm because some of us have class

and it would be easier if most of us have the time to come and help at the event.

 

- Matt (Recreation)

  • ASL Night Date: November 21st (Friday)

  • Hiking Dates: October 25th, November 8th, December 6th (All on Saturday)

  • Staff vs. Students: November 21st (Friday)

* Will get more information from Bob

 

- Tyler (DCAP)

  • Met up with Ashley Shimizu, the former chairperson of Mister Deaf CSUN pageant 2013-14

  • Developed the competition format

  • As of Thurs, September 25th, I will go to reserve the Plaza Del Sol Room

  • Second Flyer will be ready soon

 

- Braden (Social Cultural)

  • No Report

  • Report during meeting:

* Regarding with the Halloween Event, I want to collaborate with someone but still working on it.

 

- Alexandra (JASK)

  • I am in the process of recruiting members for my committee, I plan to do this by selecting people I think will help make JASK week a success!

I will put people in charge of the following: PR, coordinator for fundraising, and then 3 extra people to assist with brainstorming ideas,

other tasks, etc. I will contact people via email, or social media-I am still deciding and putting together general email/flyer I will be using.

  • I have lots of ideas brewing and am excited to share with you all once they are “fully baked” so to speak.

 

- Danielle (DC Lounge)

  • I am currently in process of getting the final approval from Bob for the survey. Hopefully, it will be approved by Friday afternoon

and then I will send it out to NCOD students.

  • At my committee meeting Friday morning, we will begin to make a list of the prices of furniture to get a better idea of what to present to Roz.

 

- Tirzah (Art)

  • No Report

  • Report during meeting:

* The Wall “Who Are You” event, I’m still working on dates and time and posted a group discussion on Facebook group as well.

* As for the Deaf CSUNians Logo, I’m still working on the design.

 

- Tuzdie (Public Relations)

  • Set up DC private FB group

  • Sent out flyer on all media sites for ambassador program

  • Creating 2nd flyer for ambassador program

  • Sent out event information to all media sites for the International panel which was held on Wednesday

  • Following this coming week

* Sending out 2nd flyer for ambassador program

* Posting up the minutes on the website after they are finished for week 3

* Looking for another events to post up in my email…

- Emmanuel:

  • I move to untable my proposal from Last Friday about our DC’s new allocate budge to committees.

* Julia seconded. Vote: 9 passed. 0 Neutral. 0 opposed.

* An approval for our Deaf CSUNians’ Budget that is allocate to our committees for the 2014-2015 year.

* To untable his proposal. Vote: full house. 0.Neutral. 0 opposed.

  • Sign n’ Run on March 22nd, 2015 (tentative date, most likely will happen). Please let Tyler Pugeda know if you’re interested in

* National Coming Out Day on November 9th , Thursday

* Fundraiser at Pieology from 7pm – 9pm

  • DEAFestival on September 27th, Saturday at LA City Hall

* 45 Years of Decolonizing the American Dream on September 27th, Saturday from 4pm-7pm at Chican@ House

* Celebrating 45 years of Chican@ Studies & EOP at CSUN and promoting self –sustainability to benefit your community

* Workshops, music, and food

  • AISA collaborates with Teaching and Mentoring Indian Tarahat (The program offers education and leadership development

for native high school youth in LA)

* September 27th, Saturday (California Indian Day)

* From 11am – 2pm @CSUN Sierra Quad

* Event offers hands-on cultural activities from instructors from the tribes to the north, south, east, and west of the Tataviam.

Invitation to the Native community to come learn more about cultural activities from local instructors.

  • DSA Fundraiser on September 30th, Tuesday at Pizza Rev

  • CAUSA

* On October 1st at Central American Studies Cultural Center next to Chican@ House at 3pm

* They have their Central American Film Experience (C.A.F.E.) at 5pm

* C.A.F.E. happens 3 times a semester

* Promote awareness among the community on issues in Central America through films

* Always make sure has English subtitles because the language in the film is in Spanish

  • 23rd Annual Festival of Philippines Arts & Culture at Grand Park in LA

* October 4th to October 5th (Saturday and Sunday)

  • The San Fernando Valley 1st Annual Latin@ PRIDE Conference on October 12th, Saturday from 1pm – 6pm
